Wednesday 23rd July
First we will visit Ban Bu village, famous for its stonewashed metal bowls, called khan long hin. The villagers are descendents of migrants who fled Ayutthaya and have been making khan long hin since 1767. They fashion exquisite bronze bowls, trays, plates and other items using traditional methods. As well as observing the process you will be able to make a purchase.
Nearby is Wat Suwannaram. It is normally closed as it has precious murals that make this temple famous. It has been arranged that a monk will open the temple for us. During the reign of King Taksin, 1768 –1782, this temple was where Burmese prisoners of war were executed. After restorations by King Ramas I and III, it became the site of a Royal Cremation Ground for members of the Royal family and high-ranking officers.
Lastly, students from Wat Suwannaram School will be our guides at their very small museum in the school grounds. This museum has interesting information about the area.
Time: 8.45am – 12.30pm
Cost: Approx. 100 baht for transport and donations
RSVP: Monday July 21st
